130 Launch

I'm going to try and catch up on blogging.  We'll see how it goes.  Sadly, I have to start back in February!

In early February, we had the opportunity to see another launch!  Kaiden was thrilled!

Not that you can tell from these photos, but Kaiden was sick most of the trip.  He threw up the morning we were supposed to leave.  We called the doctor and they told us it was most likely a 24 hour virus, so we took a chance and hopped on the plane. Not so much a 24 hour bug--more like 5 day bug!  Hind sight is always 20/20!  But fortunately, he didn't throw up on our first travel day until we were in the parking lot of the hotel in Florida.  Not so awesome for the car seat, but we managed!

We were lucky enough to get to tour KSC (Kennedy Space Center), which included this stop right by the shuttle.  It is so amazing to see it so close!

Kaiden was asleep until this stop.  We were so happy he woke up for the photo op!

So cool!

Lichar explaining to K all about the shuttle launch.

After our tour, we went to Bob's reception.  Here we are with "Flat Bob."

Our crew with Bob.  Tim, Deana, Bob, K, Lichar, me and Sue.

Deana with both Flat Bobs!

Me on the potty???  Nope, this would be Kaiden throwing up in the hotel room the night before launch.  Note to self:  when you are sharing a bed with your sick infant, very important to make it to the bathroom quickly when he throws up!

Poor kid, you can tell he didn't feel well.  Thankfully this state was short lived.

Launch was set for 5 am.  ( I can't remember the exact time)  You would think that means getting up early to view launch, but in reality it means staying up all night!  We had to board buses to take us to our viewing location at 12:40 am.  Thus, no sleep.  You can imagine our disappointment when the first attempt was scrubbed with only 10 minutes left till launch due to clouds in the area.

So we went back to the hotel to sleep.

Us girls trying to catch up on sleep.

The boys chillin.

After we all had a good nap, we took a nice walk along the beach.

And the next night, we got to do it all over again!  Here we are camped out at the Saturn V building waiting to try it again.

View of the Saturn V Rocket in the building.  We were happy to be at this location where we could stay inside, because it was cold outside!!!

At the countdown clock in the 9 minute hold.

After the countdown clock started again, I was walking Kaiden to keep him content.  Here we are with only 6 minutes left until launch.  We were super excited that tonight it would finally launch.

Night launches are absolutely amazing...

The night sky lights up just like during the day.  It is incredibly bright!

Since it was a night launch and not too cloudy, we were able to see it for around 6 minutes.  So cool to watch it for so long.

What a wonderful launch!

We learned about sick babies on our 'wedding' trip. Brooks threw up for 12 hours straight then Emery a day later for 12 hours straight. We had a sand bucket, it became the throw up bowl! Fun!!

You are right the night launch is beautiful!

Oh no! Not at Auntie's wedding?

It really sucks when your kids are sick, especially traveling. We felt like horrible parents--but what do you do?!?
