The day after hitting the Discovery Center, we woke up and it appeared that the winds had finally calmed down a bit, so we braved the elements and went for a picnic in the park.
We were sad to see the wind had returned by lunch time. Ugh.
After the picnic, we headed for the big Amarillo zoo. I hadn't visited the zoo in ages. I was sad to see that the old entrance (where you walked through a cave) had changed. :( And let's just say that after the Houston Zoo, we might be zoo snobs. Admission was only $3, but we think you would be best saving that money and going to the Discovery Center. ;)
It didn't help that we visited right in the middle of the afternoon--which appeared to be nap time for all the animals.
If you ask Kaiden about the zoo, he will tell you about the Longhorn getting a drink!
This guy was awake and making plenty of noise. I do remember loving the peacocks when I visited the zoo as a kid.
Love those colorful feathers!
Sleeping lions.
Sleeping bears.
Oh wait, someone is awake!!!
"Roaaaaaarrrrring" at the tigers.
You can tell he was afraid of Kaiden. Hehe!
Sleeping bobcat.
Sleeping (?? at least we hope!) donkey.
Oh yea, another awake animal!
The other animals were quiet and staying in the shade.
Watching the monkeys, the most active animal at the zoo.
Poppy and Kaiden watching the buffalo. This picture screams the lyrics "Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play...Home, home on the range!"
There is a buffalo in there...can you spot him?

Two posts in one day - I am impressed. This one wasn't such great memories - I really thought it was a dud trip since all the animals were asleep. But glad that we all experienced the Amarillo Zoo together!

It is amazing what you can do when both kids take their nap at the same time!! (ok, truth is I've been working on them for forever, just finally posted!)
