We took the rest of our vacation to go visit our good friends Kira and Andrew. It was about a 5 hour drive from San Diego, so we had to make sure the drive was a fun one. (We won't mention that all of our excursions nearly doubled the drive time! Hehe! As long as we all had fun!!)
We made the required stop at In-N-Out. YUM!
While driving through LA, I asked Lichar, "I wonder where the Hollywood sign is?" We had no GPS with us, so we called my sister to see if she could look it up for us. Just as she told us the exit number to take, we passed that exit. We decided that was a sign that we should stop and see it! So after some great directions from "GPS Ashley" and a brief little detour, here we are!
Kaiden was set up with plenty of entertainment for the drive. He's holding the headphone up to his ear.
Most of the time he was happy...
...but we did have more than the usual of this.
Thank goodness he easily forgets his troubles. This stick made it all better! We finally decided that he hated this chair and bought a new one. That did the trick, he was all smiles after that. We were thrilled that we now had TWO car seats to lug around!!

One of our many stops included this one at a rest area. Kaiden had a wonderful time chasing the birds!
Yeah!! Finally we arrived in San Luis Obispo to see Kira, Andrew, Alison and Kasey! (more on our excursions with them to come) While they were working, we went out to explore.

Day two: We went to Avila beach. When I looked it up on the internet, it says "where beach lovers proclaim perpetual sun and the warmest beach in the county." We beg to differ. It was cold. COLD.
I know we are Houston-ites and all, but other people were even wearing sweatshirts. (do you see the sweatshirts behind us?)
And windy. (As evidenced by Kaiden's hair.) :) We didn't realize how his hair looked in this photo until we downloaded it on the computer!!!
What you can't see here is that I am covered up by both towels.
Since we were freezing, we decided to abandon the beach and go to the playground near the beach instead. It was warmer there and Kaiden really enjoyed it.

He had so much fun playing that he threw a huge fit when we left!
Day three: We went to Montana de Oro State Park. Again we were cold. We learned that it can be sunny and hot in one area and five minutes away it can be cloudy and cool.
Since it was quite chilly without the sun, (and we were not dressed appropriately) we decided to abandon the hike we were considering. But with scenery like this, we couldn't resist exploring a bit.
The beach was made of 1,000s of flat rocks. We all thought they were very cool.

Day four: We went back to Montana de Oro armed with jeans and jackets--bring on the hike!!!
Kaiden decided he wanted to hike too (instead of being carried). Lots of fun, but needless to say we didn't make it as far as we'd anticipated.

The good thing about letting Kaiden walk is that we were forced to stop and smell the flowers.
He loved all the flowers!
And who wouldn't love such a beautiful sight? :)
The icing on the cake for Kaiden was this bird. When we got back to the car it was hopping around. We gave it some food and it stayed around for a long time and got very close. Kaiden was entranced. "Bird, bird, bird, bird!!"
Next up--fun with the Aber family. :)
